Hafla at the Feast of the Seven Deadly Sins (2018)

A record of the Court Proceedings of Their Excellencies of Delftwood, Propraetor Marcus Claudius Cincinnatus and Propraetrix Desiderata Drake at Yule upon the Tenth day of February, 2018 AS 52. Presented by Freiherrin Helena Mützhasen, Windmill Pursuivant.

The court of Their Excellencies was opened.

The Propraetorii welcomed all to the event.

Their Excellencies called before them all those for whom this was their first event. Upon welcoming the newcomers, they provided drinking vessels and tokens and pointed out all the Chatelaines.

Their Excellencies then determined through a series of queries who present had participated in our Society the longest, exempting those who had already won the prize – who were called forth. This was determined to be Leofwynn Ravenlocke. She was presented with a lamp to continue to light the way for newcomers.

Mistress Ođindisa Bykona was welcomed into court as Event Steward. She thanked her staff, all who helped, all who came, and all who stayed home if they were sick. She particularly pointed out the work of Lady Keara Caitlyn MacLeod, the head cook, who persevered even after losing her home to a fire.

She then begged a boon from the Propraetorii and asked to be joined by The Honorable Lord Hrolfr Fjrfelli and Lady Maddelena d’Augustino. She then promised to teach Lady Maddelena and took her as an apprentice – with a belt made by Lord Hrolfr.

The Propraetorii announced that they were pleased with the results of the scroll blank competition and that there were twenty-one entries. They asked that Matilda Bosville de Bella Aqua join them in court because she had helped them judge the entries. She announced the results as follows: In the novice category the most creative was won by Lord Ixac Ben Simone, and the most historic and greatest quantity was won by Lady Catherine O’Herlihy; in the experienced category, the most creative was won by Elizabeth the Nameless, and the most historic and greatest quantity was won by Baron Caleb Reynolds. All four winners were given prizes. All who entered were also called forth and given tokens for entering.

Their Excellencies sought the presence of Lady Catalina Carpintero de Diaz, who ran a donation jar and arranged prize fights in memory of Laurel at the Polish Club, who passed away late last year. At the time of court, $223 was raised to be given to the Polish Club (where Delftwood holds fight practices) in memory of their long-time member.

Lord Simon Caminante was summoned forth to give the results of the Cut and Thrust tournament. He announced that the winner was Lord William Deth, and gave a prize of a fencing manual provided by Master Eric Grenier de Labarre.

The Propraetorii commanded the presence of Master Benedict Fergus atte Mede, to explain and give the results of the grand open tournament. It began as an hour-long bear pit, and then eight of the fencers were selected by pre-determined criteria to fill out a double-elimination tournament. These were the top three placing in the bear pit, the two gentles who marshalled the most, the gentle with the best win/loss ratio, the gentle with the most bouts, and the most joyous gentle. After the end of the tournament, the overall winner was determined to be Lord William Deth – who with permission addressed the populace to share his love and appreciation of his first home: AEthelmearc. He was given a hand-carved horn made by Ania Mhoireach.

Their Excellencies then summoned those who had gone above and beyond expectations for the day: Baron Artemius Andreas Magnus, Baroness Clarice Roan, Lord Stpehen of Delftwood, Lord Eoin MacCogadhian, and Lady Megge Gormshuileach. The gentles were then presented with Millstones as a token of their work.

The current Fencing Champion, Master Benedict Fergus atte Mede, was summoned, and after presenting a new rapier holder, was released from service.

Finding a vacancy in the Champions, their Excellencies spoke on the joy of discovering many entrants in the tournament. After discussion and taking into considering the entrants able to serve in the position of Champion, they named Lord Jan Lange ten Walde as their new Fencing Champion. The scroll and framed were made by Ania Mhoireach.

The Propraetorii called before them Lord Eoin MacCogadhian. Upon speaking of his skills in archery, thrown weapons, and fencing, they called for the presence of the Order of the Millguard, and inducted him into said order. Scroll by Freiherrin Helena Mützhasen

Their Excellencies then brought forth their Order of the Mistral, and seeing a vacancy, called forward Baroness Anastasie deLamoure. For her ongoing giving spirit, including opening her home for Fiber Arts and Thrown Weapons, was induced into that order. Leather scroll by Baron Edward Harbinger.

Having a piece of business they accepted on behalf of the Crown of Æthelmearc, the Propraetorii summoned Elizabeth the Nameless, and presented her with the scroll confirming her Award of Arms, as presented in royal court the second day of September, A.S. LII at the Shoot in the Wildwood. The scroll by Baroness Clarice Roan.

Their Excellencies then addressed the populace and declared their intent to retire a year hence, or thereabouts. They asked that anyone interested in seeking to fill their position to send a letter declaring their intent to themselves and their Seneschal, in a timeframe as determined by Baronial Policy.

There being no further business, the court was closed.
