Welcome to the Barony of Delftwood & Its Canton of Dunloch

The Barony of Delftwood and the Canton of Dunloch are a part of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), an international pre-1600’s recreation society. The Barony and Canton encompass most of Onondaga and Oswego Counties and also parts of nine other surrounding counties. Within the SCA, Delftwood and Dunloch are a part of the Kingdom of Æthelmearc (Western NY, Western PA, WV).

Members of the SCA gather to hold feasts, tournaments, courts, and other aspects from this time period. Clothing, food, music, and martial activities are just a few areas of interest to explore in our group. Martial activities include armored combat, fencing, thrown weapons and archery.

14th Baronage of Delftwood

Greetings Delftwood!
We’ve reached the warm season in Central New York and to accommodate the seasonal temperatures, the Barony has been moving martial practices outdoors. We also have shifted A&S to a slightly earlier time on Tuesdays. Please watch the Baronial calendar, the email list, or our social media accounts to see if a practice or meeting has been added or cancelled.
Speaking of cancelled, we want to express our most sincere gratitude to everyone for their understanding with the last minute cancelation of our Investiture Feast due to the Plague. We are still hopeful that it will be rescheduled for sometime this fall and that you will all come celebrate once again with us.

At the tail end of May, the Canton hosted Spring Fling, which was full of thrown weapons opportunities, saw our yearly Baronial Rattan Championship tournament be held, and ate an outstanding Middle Eastern dayboard. We first would like to congratulate Baron William for becoming our newest Rattan Champion and look forward to him finding more people to join him on the heavy field in the Barony and seeing him represent the Delftwood at Seven Pearls in August. We’d like to thank Lady Ana and Lady Maddalena for their service as autocrat and head cook, respectively, as well as all those who assisted them throughout the day, and Mistress Othindisa for stepping in as our herald for the day. We very much hope all who attended had a most wonderful time.

We look forward to the summer months! At Pennsic we will be holding the Pudding Party for Delftwood’s Birthday. Please join us in Delftwood Camp Middle Sunday from 11-1 for pudding and light sandwiches and snacks. We ask that you bring your own lunch, if you’d like any additional sustenance. Other notable things happening at Pennsic: We are hosting the KW Thrown Weapons Tournament, a number of Delftwood’s populace are teaching classes, even more will be attending classes, participating in martial activities, some of us will be giving our time serving as Pennsic staff or helping with various Kingdom activities throughout the 2 weeks, one will have a protege belting, and one of our own will have a vigil and elevation to the Order of the Pelican. As is customary for us, we will have a small present for all Delftwood attendees at War. Please seek us out in order to receive your gift. In short, if you go to War this year, please have tons of fun, but please do so safely!

We also have Seven Pearls happening two weeks later in Endless Hills. We look forward to seeing Our Champions Master Rian, Baron William, Lord Wolfgang, Lord Celsus, Lady Ana, and Mistress Alheydis compete against their counterparts from the other Baronies in the Kingdom. We ask our ever-faithful Mistral (and our awarded Mistrals, should they wish) to send additional good juju and spirits to our Champions to be victorious on this day.

Following that, on Labor Day weekend, we should be hosting our annual thrown weapons and archery event. Please stay tuned for new information, as it will be forthcoming in the near future.

We would like to offer a challenge during this warm weather season: Please bring a new person to an event, weekly meeting, or martial event. Our Barony and our Society will only flourish when we have people in attendance and serving in leadership roles, and helping set up, cleanup, and run meetings, practices, and events. Getting our information out there by word-of-mouth and having a familiar face at our weekly gatherings are two of the easiest ways for us to help our Barony grow. We thank you in advance for your assistance with meeting this challenge.

We would also like to recognize Baron Dalibor for his marshaling outside of the Barony, Lord Horo for marshaling and running tournaments outside of the Barony, THL Corbin for marshaling and running ranges outside the Barony, THL Magdalena for her various levels of exchequer, MoL, and kitchen service throughout the kingdom, and *all* of the artisans who have created garb, scrolls, and largess for others around the Kingdom and beyond. if we forgot anyone, we are deeply sorry. Please let us know so we can add it to our next letter.

We are grateful beyond measure for the Barony providing the winds that makes Delftwood’s mill blades continue to spin with your service, art, martial activities and kindness.

You rock!

Delftwood rocks!
