My favorite things to do in the SCA are:
Making and learning about the various arts & sciences, exploring the world of book heraldry and heraldic displays, attending court, spectating at tourneys, and seeing the different world cultures of the SCA expressed through garb.
I participate/have interest(s) in the following activities:
Arts & Sciences, Scribal Arts, Heraldry, and Medieval Catholicism.
If you saw me at an SCA event, I most likely would be…
Trying out a little bit of everything. I like to dabble and see all the activities the SCA has to offer.
The top item on my “SCA bucket list” to try is…
I’d like to make it to a Pennsic War and visit every barony in Æthelmearc. My physical limitations make travel any farther than an hour or two difficult. I’ll get well enough to go someday, but for now It’s just too taxing.
What do you like most about being in the SCA?
The atmosphere. Classes are casual, informative and the instructors are really engaging. They know how to teach to people with all levels of experience. And the events are so much fun! It’s almost like a vacation, a great diversion from the daily grind and a great way to meet new people.
Delftwood rocks because…
The people. I have always felt I was among friends ever since my very first meeting. Everyone has been so much more kind, understanding and accommodating of my disability than even people I have known for years. I have heard horror stories of people quitting or never even joining the SCA because they felt unwelcomed by veteran members. But the people of Delftwood really go out of their way to include everybody and make you feel loved and appreciated.
Other information I would like to share with the public:
Come out and give us a try, don’t ever be intimidated! Newbies are always welcome and well taken care of. You might just find out that you’ll really enjoy this hobby and the company that comes with it. 🙂
