Court Reports of the Barony of Delftwood
Artemius and Clarice
February 13th, AS 44
(2010)
Feast of the Seven Deadly Sins
Barony of Delftwood
Being the report of the final court of Their Excellencies, Artemius
Andreas Magnus and Clarice Roan, by the grace of the crown 8th baron
and baroness of Delftwood. Court held on February 13th, anno societatis
XLIV, being in the new manner anno domini 2010, at Their Feast of the
Seven Deadly Sins in the Barony of Delftwood. Reporting herald Mistress
Alheydis von Körckhingen.
Their Excellencies invited before them all youth in attendance and
solicited from them a vocal affirmation of their enjoyment of the day,
whereupon Their Excellencies distributed unto the youths cookies from
the baronial larder, accompanied by a choral recitativo on the proper
orthographic use of the third letter of the alphabet, the thesis of
which is that C is for "cookie".
Their Excellencies invited before them any gentles for whom the day was
their first event. Their Excellencies welcomed these once strangers,
now friends, to the current middle ages and bid them seek out gentles
who might further encourage their travels among us.
Their Excellencies welcomed before them Their Bardic Champion, Lady
Catherine O'Herlihy, who presented firstly gifts of cookies to
replenish the bounty of which Their Excellencies had so freely given.
Lady Catherine then gifted Their Excellencies and the assembled
populace with a song of her own authorship, speaking most eloquently of
The Dream in which we share. Accompaniment by Lord Gyles de Blair.
Their Excellencies received before them Lord Edward Harbinger who
presented the gift of Their Excellencies' personal arms wrought in
leather by Lord Edward's own hands.
Myskia Náttfara was called forth to be thanked and praised for
her many services to the baronage and to the populace, in honor of
which she was made a Companion of the baronial Order of the
Windmill. Scroll drawn by Mistress Una De Saint Luc, painted by Lady
Gillian McGill and calligraphed Lady Fenris McGill upon a text by Lady
Juliana Stafford.
Don Benedict Fergus atte Mede was called forth, followed by those
members present of the baronial Order of Mistral. His Excellency, Oeric
Lestrange, founder of the Order, spoke of its nature and meaning, that
being recognition of those gentles for whom it is their very nature to
do what they do, whether art or service or combat, not in search of
reward or glory, but rather "because" - because it is who they are. Don
Fergus having shown himself driven not by pursuit of glory but by
simple delight in his service to the barony and study of the rapier
arts, was selected as this year's annual inductee, and made a companion
of the Order of the Mistral. Regalia and Scroll wrought in glass by the
hand of Baron Artemius Andreas Magnus, upon a text by Lady Helene
al-Zarqa'.
Their Excellencies then thanked those gentles who had been of special
service to Themselves and to the barony during Their tenure, including
those who had acted in service for the Baronial dinner, the scribes of
Delftwood, those who had served as champions, and those individuals
named here following: Aiden, Alheydis, Anastasie, Andreas, Bran,
Catherine, Corbin, Corwyn, Desi, Drefan, Eadaoin, Edward, Failenn,
Felicity, Fenris, Fergus, Frederich, Gwenhyvar, Gyles, Heero, Helene,
Henryk, Josh, Juliana, Justin, Maggie, Marcus, Maribeth, Micheal,
Moniczka, Myskia, Olafr, Olivia, Petra, Phillippe, Sarah, Seamus,
Svana, Vilhelmr. Special tokens were given to Mistress Alheydis as
Baronial Herald and organizer of Their Excellencies' courts, to Lady
Catherine O'Herlihy, Head Retainer and organizer of Their Excellencies;
and, to Lady Juliana Stafford, Baronial Signet, without whose gentle
reminders many scrolls would have been backlogged.
There being no further business before Their Excellencies, this their
final court was closed.
============
Being the report of the first court of Their Excellencies, Edward
Harbinger and Anastasie de Lamoure, by the grace of the crown 9th baron
and baroness of Delftwood. Court held on February 13th, anno societatis
XLIV, being in the new manner anno domini 2010, at Their Feast of the
Seven Deadly Sins in the Barony of Delftwood. Reporting herald Mistress
Alheydis von Körckhingen with assistance of Lady Helene al-Zarqa'.
Their Excellencies welcomed Cainnech Chille Dhara, who gifted those
present with a poem of her authorship in honor of the retirement of
Baron Artemius and Baroness Clarice and offered her pen in future ode
to Their Excellencies Edward and Anastasie.
Their Excellencies received representatives of the Canton of Angels
Keep who presented to Their Excellencies a basket of diverse gifts as
well as bountiful scroll blanks and scroll cases wrought by the loving
hand of Gwenhwyvar Morwyn.
Their Excellencies were visited by representatives of Teulu Trowbl, who
presented a lovely gift basket of delicacies and delights for Their
Excellencies' use.
Their Excellencies received Baron Caleb Reynolds of the Rhydderich Hael
who presented to Their Excellencies his most wise counsel, promise of
alliance, and a basket of gifts especially designed to calm Their
Excellencies' spirit and soul at the reflection upon and realization of
just what they had got themselves into.
Their Excellencies received Baron Gunnarr and Baroness Barbary Rose of
the Endless Hills, who processed to the accompaniment of the Endless
Hills choir which filled the hall with the melody of "Windmills". Baron
Gunnarr spoke at length of the silly nature of earlier diplomacy
between Delftwood and Endless Hills, and proposed a treaty of peace
between his land and Delftwood, with the entire 120% of subsequent
"loot" to be divided 60-60 between them. As both Baronages were of
accord to these terms, the treaty was signed by each baronage upon the
backs of the other. The question of royal endorsement arose, at which
His Majesty Henri inquired as to the nature, and indeed source, of said
"loot" and bid be offered 40 shares to Baron Gunnarr's 60, thus raising
the lucrative nature of the treaty to 160%. Unable to sufficiently sort
out the mathematics, all parties agreed that the royal shares would be
settled at a later time.
Their Excellencies invited before them Their Bardic Champion, Lady
Catherine O'Herlihy, who attested that Galle Amsel had been named the
victor of the day's Bardic competition. Tournament scroll text,
illumination and calligraphy by Lady Helene al-Zarqa'.
Her term of service at a close, Lady Catherine was divested of the
regalia of the station of Bardic Champion, whereupon Lady
Éadaoin ingen Chanacáin was named the successor of that
office, invested as Baronial Bardic Champion and invited to take her
place upon the dais. Champion scroll text, illumination and calligraphy
by Lady Helene al-Zarqa'.
Their Excellencies called forth Don Benedict Fergus atte Mede, baronial
Fencing Champion, who in turn invited Master John Michael Thorpe,
marshal of the Bear Pit Tournament, to attest that Mark Gunnarsson had
been named the victor of the day's overall Fencing Tournament.
Tournament scroll text, illumination and calligraphy by Lady Verederosa
Dal Sol.
His term of service at an end, Don Fergus was divested of the regalia
of the station of Fencing Champion, whereupon Lord Michael Gladewyne
was named the successor of that office, invested as Baronial Fencing
Champion and invited to take his place upon the dais. Champion scroll
by Lady Gillian McGill de Verona
Their Excellencies called forth Earl Sir Yngvar the Dismal and Countess
Caryl Olesdattir who spoke passionately of the valiant and honorable
conduct of the Baronial sons Bran mac Dímmáin and
Vilhjálmr Eðvarðarson upon the youth list that day.
Having prepared themselves for challenge in a deed of arms, when none
dared to meet them in battle, the Baronial sons engaged in combat
between them to the glory of Delftwood and Æthelmearc and in
honor of their parents, the newly invested Baron Edward and Baroness
Anastasie of Delftwood.
Earl Sir Ynvar was bid by Their Excellencies to attend them once more,
whereupon They noted that although honored with knighthood, His
Excellency's achievements in the arts martial had not yet been
recognized by Baronial decree. To remedy this, Their Excellencies made
of Earl Sir Yngvar the Dismal a Companion of the baronial Order of the
Millguard. Scroll text, illumination and calligraphy by Lady Felicitas
Flußmüllnerin.
Séamus Rogan was called forth and praised by Their Excellencies
for his service and studies within the archery ranks. In honor of his
achievements at bow and arrow Their Excellencies did make him a
Companion of the baronial Order of the Millguard. Scroll text,
illumination and calligraphy by Lady Faílenn ingen Chernaich.
Joe Amore of the Polish American Citizens Club was invited to attend
Their Excellencies, who spoke warmly of the many years of friendship
and collaboration between the members of the PACC and the citizens of
Delftwood, whereupon was read a scroll of gratitude. Scroll text,
illumination and calligraphy by Isadora Rogan.
Their Excellencies called forth the Brewers of Delftwood: Maggie,
Gyles, Rian, Finnr, Artemius, Clarice, Oeric, Justin, Gwenhwyvar,
Fenris, Marcus and Verederosa. Her Excellency attested to the delicious
nature of the barony's brews, while His Excellency attested to the good
taste of Her Excellency. However, having found the Baronial Butlery
filled with naught but "empties", these were presented to the brewers
of Delftwood with the charge that they be made full forthwith.
Their Excellencies invited His Lordship Christopher Harper to herald
forth the scribes of Delftwood, to whom Their Excellencies presented
gifts of scroll cases and carrying bags, wrought by the hand of Her
Excellency Anastasie, that the scribes might be inspired to industry
and beauty.
There being no further business before Their Excellencies, this their
court was closed.
